At Tawhiti kindergarten…..

Relationships are the foundation from which our Tamariki are nurtured to become competent and confident learners. Our well resourced kindergarten provides opportunities for all children to learn and grow.

At Tawhiti kindergarten We have a responsive, nurturing teaching team of 3 full time teachers and 1 part time teacher as well as a part time teacher aide.

The indoor environment at Tawhiti kindergarten provides spaces for Tamariki to play independently or with friends and is designed to encourage and support social play.  There are spaces for children to be creative and spaces for children to have quiet time should they choose.

Our outdoor environment comprises of a large playground where there is space for children to challenge themselves physically, space to run and a large sandpit for children to explore.  There are also smaller spaces that create “pockets” for play.  Tamariki at Tawhiti kindergarten are encouraged to become kaitiaki of our environment and are supported to do this through our involvement in the Enviroschools initiative.  Gardening and taking care of our place are imbedded within our curriculum.

As relationships are an integral part of our curriculum here at Tawhiti kindergarten, we encourage and value input from whānau to best support children’s learning.  As we charge no fees here at kindergarten, we offset costs and the purchasing of new equipment through fundraising efforts and invite you to be part of these.
